A good cause...

So my mom built a garden, a big garden full of everything you could think of! Tonight our dinner consisted of potatoes, carrots and green beans that we pulled straight from the ground, talk about cool & yummy.

Little did we plan for, this garden produces way more goodies than we know what to do with. One day my mom called me with an idea... "how about we start taking some of our extra produce and put it out for the neighbors to take. They can pay whatever they wish & we'll donate it all to the local animal shelters..." of course I was game for this idea!

My artistic & crafty side came right out.  I searched for wood planks laying around in the shed, pulled out my paint & paintbrushes and started making signs. We think each week/month we will switch which shelter we donate to.

With my music on, wine glass in hand, mom across from me, painting these signs while the sun was setting made for a relaxing Sunday evening.

We took our old wooden bench & adirondack chair down to the street, hung our signs, & displayed our produce & herbs. I think it looks cute, rustic and is just perfect. Here we have a few zucchini squash and mason jars full of basil and parsley. (We hope to add lots more!)

The final display! So far we've made about $0.80 but we are very proud, hehe. :) We hope the neighbors catch on and contribute to our good cause. Maybe once our garden produces more and more we can do bigger and better things in the future.

I feel great about this project & I know my mama does too. Having rescued 5 dogs and 2 cats in our lifetime, it's definitely a cause we feel passionate about.

Heres the pup I decided to rescue and I can tell you it was the best decision of my life:
